At any part of your life span, stress is part and parcel of our living. Both the aged and comparatively tiny tots are facing hard circumstances and trying to cope up with them.

While the older persons are challenged by physical and monetary setbacks, their studies, jobs, emotional relationship and friends thrash the young ones.

Fortunately, we learn to live with the obstacles that have been given by stress with time, but in the fag end of our life, the natural defense mechanism fails to perform properly.

It is seen that the experienced aged ones and who has a positive attitude towards life, can pass with flying colors despite of all the stresses they have faced in their life. The stay attached both physically and mentally to their near and dear ones, works out regularly and keeps them full of life. However, perhaps the main cause behind these is their positive attitude to their life that helps to lessen the stress.

A study showed us that most of the persons do not become mentally unwell even after horrifying things take place into their life. Stress lays its effect to human being n the form of anxiety. Then come depression and neurosis. When women suffer from depression, they are most likely to experience both defeat and danger. It is the most common psychological problem among the aged people. This is perhaps due to the episode of dementia, disability, physical illness, bereavement, loss of independence and security, and suicide all are much more common in old age, and therefore the occurrence of depression should increase as well. Other factors that contribute to depression are disharmony in marriage, socioeconomic condition, decaying health and activities and social support.

Stress hormones (Adrenaline and Cortisol) are secreted from the gland when we are put to stress. They provide energy and help us to defend the stressed out situation for a short term, but in excess of stress over a prolonged time can throw a person's defense system out of the gear. Excess of stress hormones can lead to many diseases. It includes diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney problem and a frail immune system. For the older people who are already experiencing these problems due to there age, can reach in a peak danger point. For them, managing stress is particularly important.
According to a recent study conducted in the University of California at San Francisco, excess cortisol for a long time has the potency to damage the hippocampus, a part of the brain that is a key area for storing and salvage memories. Years of emotional grief may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

The rays of hope are that we can relate to all about what we know regarding stress and aging to our favor. We should learn to deal with and lessen our stress load and we have a better possibility to live a long life with good physical shape. The main thing we need is a positive mind set and learning to de-stress ourselves.
