It is necessary to have some sort of consistency in the sleeping pattern before an individual can actually overcome his sleeping disorder.

Ideally a person should stop consuming heavy meals after 8pm so that his body gets enough time to digest them.

Cut the noise
Also, sleeping in comfortable clothes in a conducive environment is equally important. It can be pretty difficult for a person to sleep in noisy environment where he finds it hard to relax and concentrate.
